We, the Northern Flights Disc Golf Club, are looking for your help with the expense of keeping our local disc golf courses in nice, playable condition. With a small contribution, and the help of the city, we will achieve our goal. We, as disc golfers, see a lot of potential for growth in the sport due to our great location in the North State . The recent addition of a disc golf course in Anderson River Park has seen our sport grow in our area, almost beyond what we expected.
Worldwide disc golf is a major growing sport. In the year 2000 there were 6230 players registered with the professional disc golf association, or PDGA. Last year, in 2008, there were 12980 registered. In the year 2000, there were 1145 disc golf courses worldwide. Last year, in 2008, there were 2748 disc golf courses in the world. (Source, pdga.com) Looking at those numbers, you can see that the sport has more than doubled in the last eight years.
At this time there are 2354 disc golf courses in the United States. The state of California has 140 disc golf courses. Shasta County currently has two disc golf courses. We, as a club with many members in the area, take pride in the condition and playability of our two courses. These courses are now playable, but are in major need of a facelift. That facelift would come in the form of new signage for the tee pads, which is where each new hole begins.
We ask that you would help by donating to our club.
We would like your support and efforts in making our courses look and play better. If this feels like an effort you would like to help with please visit the contact us page.
